Pressure Vessel Inspection
Metlab offer Pressure Vessel Inspection to clients in Dublin, Cork and nationwide.
Pressure vessels are containers that hold substances at a different pressures from the outside pressure.
Almost every industrial facility will have some type of pressure vessel installed.
Although pressure vehicles are extremely common, they can be dangerous.
As the pressure inside a pressure vessel is substantially different than the pressure outside, this can lead to a potentially dangerous situation.
Pressure vessels have been known to cause fatal accidents.
Therefore, it is extremely important to have pressure vessels regularly inspected by a certified inspection team.

Types of Pressure Vessels
There are a variety of different pressure vessels found in industrial plants worldwide.
Some of the more common include:
STORAGE TANKS
Storage tanks come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Storage tanks are designed to store gases and liquids under pressure. Storage tanks in industrial properties can hold compressed natural gas, fuel, liquefied hydrogen or other materials that are necessary for industrial applications.
HEAT EXCHANGERS
As the name suggests, heat exchangers are designed to transfer heat between mediums, often liquids. As such heat exchangers are used for both cooling and heating processes.
PROCESS VESSELS
Process vessels are used to facilitate a process in a highly contained environment. These processes can include separating materials, combining materials, breaking down materials, etc.
Pressure Vessel Testing FAQ
How often should pressure vessels be inspected?
Pressure vessels should be inspected at regular intervals depending on their category:
• Category 1 (fired or self-generating vessels): Inspected every 14 months.
• Category 2 (unfired vessels): Inspected every 26 months.
In addition, pressure vessels must be inspected immediately after installation/commissioning and after any repairs. Not sure how often your pressure vessel needs inspection? Contact our team for recommendations or to schedule a pressure vessel test.
Do all pressure vessels require regular inspections?
Yes, in most cases, pressure vessel testing is a legal requirement. The frequency of inspection depends on the vessel category and the type of service, as explained above.
What is the difference between a pressure vessel and a storage tank?
Simply put, pressure vessels contain gases or liquids that are stored at a pressure that’s above the outside atmospheric pressure. Storage tanks store gas or liquid at the same pressure as the outside atmospheric pressure.
